Trees Looking A Little Under The Weather? 4 Reasons You Need To Have Them Pruned

Posted on: 15 July 2017

If you've got trees that haven't been pruned in a while, you should take care of that now. You might not realize this, but your trees need to be pruned once in a while. Not only will pruning protect your trees, it will also help protect your property. Here are just four of the reasons you need to engage in tree trimming on a regular basis.

Keep Your Tree Healthy

If your trees have dead or dying branches, they need to be removed. Those branches are a sign that there's something wrong with your tree. Whether it's from disease or insect infestation, dead or dying branches pose a serious threat to the tree and all the other trees in your yard. In fact, disease and insect infestation can spread rapidly from one tree to the next. Stop the progression, and remove those dead or dying branches as soon as you can. Your trees will stay much healthier if you do.

Increase Crop Yield

If you've got fruit trees in your yard and they haven't been providing a plentiful crop, you may need to prune them back. Pruning your fruit trees once a year and allowing to grow back will increase your crop yield and extend the growing season for you. Be sure to prune them once the crop season is over so that they can grow back properly in the spring.

Prevent Unruly Shape

If your trees are looking a little top-heavy or lop-sided, it's time to have them professionally pruned. If left to their own growth patterns, your trees will take on a life of their own and develop an unruly shape. You can control the unruliness and help ensure an attractive shape by having your trees pruned at least once a year. It's particularly important to thin out the crown -- the top of the tree. Failure to do that could result in a top-heavy tree with a narrow trunk.

Reduce Risks to Your Home and Family

If your trees haven't been pruned in a while, they could be posing a serious risk to your home and family, especially if you have large, mature trees in your yard. Once trees get too big, the branches can be too heavy for the tree to support. When that happens, those branches can break away from the tree and crash into your home. They may also crash down on anyone standing under the tree. Protect your home and family by having your trees pruned on a regular basis.
